TITLE: Instructional Paraprofessional
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 0.875 FTE / 9-month
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified
GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:
This employee is responsible for assisting the teacher in organizing and implementing an instructional, academic program. In addition, this employee will assist students individually and/or small group in the classroom. This employee will work under direct supervision of a teacher or teachers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom Management:
- Assist the teacher with maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Assist with duties that require movement of students.
Knowledge of Subject Matter:
- Communicate accurate knowledge of subject matter in a comprehensible manner using language and style appropriate to the student learner.
- Demonstrate a breadth of subject matter knowledge that enables students to approach and to interrelate topics from a variety of perspectives, interests, and points of view.
- Use current references, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the student learner.
- Demonstrate the ability to check student comprehension of subject matter and provide accurate feedback to students.
Planning for Instruction:
- Assist the teacher with the design of the academic program based on the assessed needs of the students.
- Assist the teacher with preparation and implementation of lesson plans for students based on assessed needs and in accordance with the districts philosophy and curriculum system.
- Provide technical assistance to school staff and students for use of the software and hardware resources of the integrated learning system.
Delivery of Instruction:
- Provide academic assistance and support for individual and/or small groups of students as directed by and under the supervision of the teacher.
- Assist the teacher with effective use of media and technology in the classroom.
Assessment of Student Performance:
- Assist the teacher with administration of appropriate assessments designed to measure and observe student progress.
- Assist the teacher with evaluating student progress on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents.
Communications:
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with other employees.
- Assist the teacher with establishing and maintaining open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
- Assist the teacher with preparing progress reports to school personnel and to parents.
Professional Development Program:
- Continue professional growth through educational in-services, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must possess an AA degree, or not less than 60 hours college-level courses or pass the paraprofessional test.
- Valid AZ Dept of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- First Aid Training and CPR Certificate.
- Demonstrate Proficiency on district assessment
- One to Three years of experience in a School District setting is preferred.
- Must be able to push, pull, or lift, up to 50 pounds
- Must possess basic math, language/reading, and writing abilities
- Must possess a warmth and understanding for special needs students
- Must possess the ability to operate adaptive devices for special needs students
OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Medium risk - Work is routinely performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the teacher with taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist the teacher with ensuring that each student in the program has the necessary records in his/her permanent record and/or portfolio.
- Performs other related duties as assigned

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
The evaluation is done by the Exceptional Student Services Director with input from site principals, in accordance with provisions specified in governing board policy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Instructional Paraprofessional reports directly to the Exceptional Student Services Director.
