TITLE: Bus Driver
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 0.75 FTE / 9-month
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified
GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to the District’s regular and extracurricular programs.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Ensure and maintain a safe environment for students during loading, transport and unloading and report student misconduct according to established directions.
- Assess potential emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect the safety and well-being of students and staff.
- Observe all mandatory safety regulations for the purpose of being in compliance with the established rules and laws as outlined by DPS and Arizona Traffic Laws.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.
- Report all necessary preventative maintenance as directed for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle.
- Prepare and submit required record information on appropriate forms in a timely manner.
- Instruct passengers in the rules and regulations to maintain safety on the bus.
- Assist in the implementation of strategies to manage student behavior and monitor students to ensure the safety of other students and staff on the bus.
- Report observations and incidents and communicate them to appropriate district staff.
- Ability to communicate with and receive direction from the Supervisors or Dispatchers.
- Maintain a clean bus on a daily basis.
- Meet or exceed the District dress code.
- Ability to drive all bus types safely.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Valid AZ Dept of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Possess and maintain an appropriate Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and AZ DOT Certificate.
- Posses and maintain a safe driving record and meet the requirements for School Bus Driver Certification.
- Obtain and maintain a valid First Aid Training and CPR Certificate.
- Must be able to pass a DOT Physical exam, drug screen and alcohol test.
- Must be able to push, pull, or lift, up to 50 pounds and pass DPS physical performance test.
- Ability to communicate and work well with staff, students, and parents.
OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Medium risk - Work is routinely performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat.

The applicant for this position is required to:

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
The evaluation is done by the Transportation Coordinator in accordance with provisions specified in governing board policy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Bus Driver reports directly to the Transportation Coordinator.
