TITLE:          Teacher - Gear Up Coach                           

 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:  184-Day Contract (Prorated to Start Date).  This position is full-time with additional summer work required.  This is a grant-funded position.  There is no guarantee of employment after the grant ends.

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt - Certified

 

GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

GEAR UP is a federally-funded college-access program.  The purpose of GEAR UP is to significantly increase the number of students from low-income communities who graduate from high school prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.  The grant is designed to focus on promoting equitable opportunities for all students in the education pipeline between the middle-grades and the first year of post-secondary education, and, in collaboration with partners, identifies and works to close equity gaps.  

 

This is a professional student-support position responsible for managing the delivery and implementation of core interventions and services for students and their families as outlined in the district’s Future Ready initiatives and an annual GEAR UP work plan and budget.  The successful candidate communicates effectively and fosters positive relationships with students, colleagues, families, and community partners to motivate action and create student success. The candidate should have knowledge of federal financial aid requirements, college application and scholarship requirements, as well as understanding how to read and analyze GPA and transcripts and understand ABOR requirements. Candidate must be willing to work night, weekend events, and become part of the BUHSD Gear Up Team.  Responsibilities also will include maintaining high level of confidentiality and standard professionalism while providing a safe environment that promotes learning and personal growth to the students of the district.

OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:

Low risk - Work is routinely performed in indoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. May be required to travel outdoors in inclement conditions to go from building to building for meetings or classes. The employee may be required to move from room to room through corridors heavily congested with people.
