TITLE:            Athletic Trainer/CTE - Sports Medicine Teacher                         

 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:     184-day contract        

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt - Certified

 

GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:

            The Teacher will be responsible for providing a positive working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and parents to establish effective rapport with students that will motivate them to develop skills. Responsibilities will include maintaining high level of confidentiality and standard professionalism while delivering a flexible program and providing a safe classroom environment that promotes learning and personal growth to the students of the district.

 

ATHLETIC TRAINING/SPORTS MEDICINE DESCRIPTION:

            The CTE Sports Medicine Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing an engaging curriculum about the career pathway of Sports Medicine and related healthcare fields that is consistent with the Arizona State Technical Standards and industry best practices. Responsibilities will include teaching three levels of Sports Medicine, including Intro to Sports Medicine, Advanced Sports Medicine, and Sports Medicine Practicum, teaching hands-on skills necessary to prepare students for future health careers. Other responsibilities include advising the HOSA – Future Health Professionals career and technical student organization (CTSO) and providing hands-on clinical experience to practicum level students in the campus’ athletic training facility.

The Certified Athletic Trainer will be responsible for providing athletic training coverage for high school athletic programs. The Certified Athletic Trainer will practice within the parameters of the Arizona Athletic Trainers Licensing laws as laid out by the Arizona Board of Athletic Training with guidance from the Position Statements and Code of Ethics set forth by the National Athletic Training Association.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

• Teaches district-approved curriculum.
• Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the time designated.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Monitor’s students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. athletic facilities, classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Be present at all regular season Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) home athletic contests and regularly travel with Varsity Football to away contests.
• Provide coverage at practices throughout the fall, winter, and spring, as directed by the Athletic Director
• Travel with all sports in state tournaments when necessary.
• Providing first aid and injury evaluation/assessment to the school’s student-athletes
• Providing treatment and rehabilitation to the school’s student-athletes
• Provide appropriate physician referral for injuries needing care beyond the provisions of the Certified Athletic Trainer
• Maintain a line of communication between the team physician(s), coaches, athletic director, parents, and student-athletes relating to injury and participation.
• Communicate with stakeholders when an athlete may return to participation and to what extent for practice and contest following injury or illness.
• Document all necessary reports associated with athletic related injuries and/or incidents in the electronic medical records system.
• Maintain a daily treatment log.
• Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory and oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room.
• Equip each team with the appropriate medical equipment.
• Assist the head coach in developing and implementing an emergency medical plan for each sport.
• Observe and report environmental risks to maintain a safe playing environment.
• Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads, or braces.
• Share professional literature relative to athletic training with the school’s coaching staff.
• Organizing and conducting baseline testing when needed or instructed.
• Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes or activities outside the instructional day as assigned by the administration.
• Attends site and district workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth.
• Complies with all rules, regulations, and policies of the Governing Board that related to the duties as prescribed.
• Agrees that during the period of the contract, s/he will perform management duties, or other duties as assigned by the administration or Governing Board.

 

QUALIFCATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Athletic Training from an accredited institution.
• Valid Arizona certificate for the position and subject areas assigned.
• Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
• Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
• Obtain and maintain valid Athletic Trainer Certification issued by the Board of Certification (BOC)
• Obtain and maintain current Arizona Board of Athletic Training State Licensure
• Obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification

 

OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:

Medium risk - Work is routinely performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat. The employee may be required to move from room to room through corridors heavily congested with people.
